A few weeks ago we got on priceline.com and booked a room at the Wingate by Wyndham in St. George for $40 a night! We were pretty excited about the adventure, to say the least.
So Friday night, we hit the road as fast as possible. We made it to our hotel and I think we were a bit surprised about how hot it STILL was at 10 PM!
Our hotel room was gorgeous. A HUGE king sized bed with nice modern furniture. We had a huge bathroom with granite countertops and a granite shower. I loved it! Everything was brand new. The hotel still had a "Now Open" sign on the front!
So Saturday morning, we started our day with a complimentary Belgian waffle before heading off to Zions National Park. Let me begin by saying I had NO idea what Zions really was about. I totally thought it was like Yellowstone where you just drive through, point and say "Oh how pretty!" But no. I was very wrong. We had to board a shuttle (the only way to drive through the park) and surround ourselves with French and Arabic people to view the park.
I looked like a complete idiot! I was wearing khaki capris, a fairly nice shirt and brown leather flip-flops with my pink purse. As I look around, I begin to notice that everyone else has a walking stick, a camelbak and hiking boots on! What the heck!?! I slowly realize that every stop the shuttle makes is at a trailhead. We waited until the very last stop and my husband was SO excited to go on the 2 mile walk. Let's just say...after about 1/8 of a mile down the red dirt path, I almost burst into tears! I finally told him we had to turn around because there was NO way I was going to walk 2 miles in leather (burning) flip flops with my purse on my shoulder! haha.

(Yes that is Chris's head...this is about 10 minutes prior to the breakdown)

Much to Chris's dismay, we quickly got back to the car and we left Zion's (and I wouldn't be offended if we never go back.) Luckily, we have a national park pass...so we didn't lose any money. haha.
The night didn't end badly though, we ended up going to see Footloose at the Tuacahn ampitheater. It was so fun! We really loved it. I got a bit creeped out by all the bats flying around outside as it got dark, but it was fun nonetheless. I hadn't been down there in about 10 years! When I was in clogging, we used to have competitions at Tuacahn, so it was fun to relive those memories.
Sunday we relaxed and visited some of Chris's old friends from Cedar City before heading home for work. It was such a fun weekend!
I can't believe Chris and I have been dating for a year. To be honest, it seems like a lot longer...but we look forward to many years to come!
